Overview
The supply chain management certification program is ideal for new students and those currently working in purchasing, supply chain management, logistics, or procurement.
The certification program introduces students to the fundamental principles of supply chain management, purchasing, and contracting.
Principles of Purchasing
Over the course of this module, you will learn the fundamental principles of the purchasing process including purchasing efficiency and organization. Topics include the administrative aspects of purchasing, purchasing methods, and how to optimize the procurement process.
Supply Chain Processes
Students examine the various aspects of the supply chain environment. Requirement systems and enterprise resource planning systems are amont the topics included in this teaching module. In addition, students learn about the relationships that exist between purchasing, vendor selection, supply sourcing, and the role technology plays in the supply chain process. Upon completing this module, you will have a firm understanding of planning, acquisition, flow, and distribution from raw materials to finished, marketable products.
Budgeting Process Fundamentals
This module covers the fundamentals of the budgeting process and provides students with an understanding of how to prepare and manage a budget.
The Procurement Process
In this module, you will become familiar with the fundamental principles that determine how suppliers are chosen throughout the various phases of the procurement process. You will also develop a solid understanding of the request for proposals (RFP) and contract bid processes and responses.
Supplier Relations
You will examine the various phases of the contracting process as you gain a solid understanding of purchase orders and supplier contracts. You will also explore the decision-making processes involved in vendor contracting.
Pricing and Cost Analysis
Over the course of this module, students learn a broad range of techniques used in evaluating pricing and costing. Topics include the various methods and techniques used to improve profitability and minimize losses. A variety of price comparison methods and strategic cost analysis are also explored over the course of this module.

Katherine Pang, PhD, JD, LLM, MBA, MEd, MS
Dr. Pang has instructed, facilitated, and led numerous business skill courses including team building, building effective groups, and similar courses for several manufacturing companies including Weir SPM, Turbomeca, as well as the City of Arlington along with numerous top 100 law firms.
Dr. Pang served as a faculty member at the University of Texas at Tyler and has been an adjunct faculty member in the law and business/ schools of many universities including the Stern School of Business at New York University, the Graduate School of Management at the University of Texas, Dallas, Pepperdine University, USC, Golden Gate University, the University of California, Irvine, Regent University, and Northeastern University. Dr. Pang received her B.A. from Clark University, her J.D. from the University of Dayton Law School, her LL.M in Taxation from Georgetown University Law School, her M.Ed from the University of Texas, her MBA, MS (Psychology), and her Ph.D in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M Commerce. Dr. Pang also has two theology degrees.
Dr. Pang has over 20 years of entrepreneurial and operational experience in professional services, manufacturing and education oriented companies. Dr. Pang has served as founder, president, CEO, COO and CFO of several companies over the last 15 years. Prior to forming Corporate Growth Strategists, Dr. Pang was recruited to serve initially as COO/CFO and General Counsel for a Dallas-based CNC precision and assembly manufacturing company to effectuate a restructure of corporate obligations and operations. The successful reduction in corporate indebtedness and the substantial increase in cash-flow flowing from operational and financial changes resulted in Dr. Pangs promotion to interim CEO and General Counsel for a period of 12-months. Dr. Pang has also served as COO and General Counsel for Technology Training Services Corporation a technology training company delivering services in Europe under Unites States Government contracts. Dr. Pang was also the Manager, Firmwide Practice Section Development, Training and Forms for Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P. in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Pang has over 20 years of experience in the design, development and delivery of educational courses and professional development and training content. She has been the CEO and Founder of three companies in the field of applied skills, active learning both in an ILT, CBT and Web-Based environment. Dr. Pang has served as an SME for over 65 business and law-related courses. In addition, Dr. Pang serves in a consulting capacity for various institutions and organizations in designing and developing curricula, adopting new technologies, integrating technology with instruction and implementing training and professional education programs. Lesson 1 Module 1: Logistics and Distribution Management This module explores the fundamental concepts and ideas of logistics and distribution management. It delves into the various logistics information management systems, analyzes their financial aspects and technological influences, and explains how to manage and measure their performance. This module is divided into lessons that explain logistics management, inventory management, and warehousing and distribution. Throughout these lessons, participants will review and distinguish between inbound logistics, outbound logistics, reverse logistics, and third-party logistics; explore the tools and techniques for tracking and valuing inventory, including ABC analysis; and learn the functions of packaging and methods for transporting goods through simple and complex distribution channels. • Understand and analyze the various logistic information management systems • Explain how to manage and measure logistics performance • Define inventory and understand how to track and value inventory • Demonstrate how to classify inventory using ABC analysis • Explain the layout and operations of a warehouse or distribution center • Understand the functions of packaging, the various modes of transportation, and both simple and complex distribution channels
Module 2: Procurement and Supply Management This module explains the evolution from the transactional purchasing or procurement function into the strategic process of supply management. It introduces key concepts and ideas that can be used to successfully source and manage suppliers and to deal with issues that may arise across the supply chain. The module is divided into lessons that explain supply management basics; describe strategic, ethical, and sustainable sourcing; and discuss supply chain leadership and integration. Participants will explore supply management from several viewpoints; align sourcing, communication, and management strategies; and incorporate ethical and sustainable practices into the supply chain. Trends and changes to the profession due to the Internet and emerging technologies are also discussed. • Discuss the importance of internal and external relationships in managing suppliers and developing a sourcing strategy • Articulate ways to enhance communication across the supply chain • Manage and continuously improve supplier performance • Determine the effects of e-procurement on supply management • Identify and manage supply risk, measure performance, and overcome organizational barriers to supply • Understand the need for leadership and diversity within the supply chain
Module 3: Supply Chain Management Basics As a supply chain grows in complexity, and companies increasingly source products and services from a more diverse and global set of suppliers, the job of managing the processes that ensure the steady and reliable flow of components and inputs has never been more difficult. This module introduces the core concepts and components of supply chain management, including supplier evaluation, logistics, inventory management, and other supply chain practices. • Define supply chain management and understand its strategic role in organizations that source goods • Explain the goals of effective supply chain management and procurement • Analyze how organizations in a supply chain communicate and manage relationships • Explain the supplier appraisal process and understand its role in supply chain management • Formulate strategies for mitigating supply chain risk, and discuss the events that can create disruption in the supply chain • Assess the major trends and issues shaping supply chain management today
Module 4: Understanding and Managing Budgets A budget is a detail of expenses and incomes for a set period of time. This module covers budgets and how they are used in organizational settings including the uses and functions of master budgets, operating budgets, sales, production, and cost of goods sold budgets, and cash budgets.
